【Nagaoka Fireworks Festival】

This is one of Japan's three greatest fireworks festivals, alongside Omagari and Tsuchiura. It is held annually on August 2nd and 3rd in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. Set against the backdrop of the Shinano River riverbed, approximately 20,000 fireworks are launched over two days. The large-scale displays are breathtaking, including the 'Phoenix' which spans 2km, the 'Niagara' that flows down from two bridges, and the massive 'Sanshakudama' fireworks. The 'Phoenix' is launched to pray for the recovery from the 2004 Chuetsu earthquake that struck this region. It is a fireworks festival full of emotion and impact that captivates many spectators.
