Wanshan Tribe is primarily classified under the Rukai ethnic group. However, their language is distinct from other Rukai communities. Tribal youth actively preserve their traditional life and unique cultural heritage through various engaging activities and experiences offered to visitors, maintaining their distinct identity.

Wanshan Tribe is situated in the winding shallow mountains of Kaohsiung's Maolin District. Access is often arranged from a major transportation hub like Kaohsiung HSR Station. Due to its mountain location, visitors typically join pre-arranged tours or private transport services for convenient and direct access to the tribal village, avoiding the hassle of self-navigation.

Wanshan Tribe is nestled deep within the winding shallow mountain areas of Kaohsiung's Maolin District. It's not on a main road, but rather hidden in a serene, natural environment, making it a secluded yet accessible cultural destination that offers a unique experience away from urban settings.

Before their relocation in 1956 to the current site, Wanshan Tribe originally resided in deep mountain stone slab house settlements at an altitude of 1400 meters. These unique dwellings, built from local stone, reflect a traditional lifestyle deeply connected to their ancestral mountain environment and resourcefulness.

Oryza meyeriana is one of the six traditional indigenous grains and is considered a 'super future food' due to its resilience against harsh conditions. In Wanshan Tribe, it signifies food security and cultural heritage. Visitors can participate in hands-on activities to knead dough and bake Oryza meyeriana cookies, learning about its importance to the tribe.

The Wanshan Rock Carvings are unique national heritage sites, resembling ancient cave carvings with mysterious patterns like concentric circles, snake designs, and human head figures. Discovered in 1978, they are located in deep mountain jungles between 1065-1375 meters north of Wantoulan Mountain, specifically guarded by tribal patrol teams.

Visitors can participate in various traditional cultural experiences. These include making Oryza meyeriana cookies, pounding mochi, creating millet bundles, or rock carving rubbings. A guided tribal tour also offers opportunities to observe daily life and interact with tribal members, fostering a deeper understanding of their culture and way of life.

Despite being classified as Rukai, Wanshan Tribe maintains its unique cultural identity and distinct language through active preservation efforts. Tribal youth lead cultural experience activities that educate visitors and younger generations about their traditions, ensuring the continuity of their unique heritage and way of life for future generations.
