Product Info

This excursion is dedicated to wine tasting but also is a journey back in time, exploring the tradition & art of Minoans pottery Visit the birthplace of N. Kazantzakis, the village of Myrtia, and finally enjoy a guided tour in 2 wineries, see the production area , visit the celars and taste 9 wines in total.

Our first stop, is in the village of Thrapsano. Thrapsano is referred to as "The village of the potters" in official documents of the 16th century which underline the long tradition of handmade pottery. Today, the production of pottery and ceramics still continues in this "Minoan Pottery" workshop in Thrapsanos, following traditional standards and techniques , the same hand movements, the same tools and the same relationship between the original potters and their apprentices. Even if they use modern tools, they only serve the pace of the production line without affecting the quality of our pottery.

At lunchtime, we arrive at the village of Myrtia , our second stop. A small traditional Cretan village that presents characteristic examples of Cretan architecture. Myrtia is also the birthplace of Nikos Kazantzakis and has a Museum dedicated to the famous Cretan writer. It exhibits personal items and memorabilia referring to the life and work of Kazantzakis as well as copies of his books.

Local tavernas are available for your meal under the large centuries-old trees in the village square and as you walk through the narrow streets of the village you will meet local Cretan men drinking their coffee in the traditional "kafeneio" where only men are allowed.

Our next stops are dedicated to wine tasting. We will visit two of the most awarded , best equipped, state-of-the-art wineries in Europe where we will have the opotrunity to taste 9 different wines in total . Visitors will take a guided tour of the cellar and enjoy the impressive multimedia show that has won important awards in international competitions.
