ー Restaurant Introduction ー
The name 'Zen-en' actually has a deep connection to China; the owner took the name from the 'Shao Shuai Zen-en' (the former residence of Zhang Xueliang in Taiwan). (The 'Shao Shuai Zen-en' was built in 1920, and starting in 1960, Zhang Xueliang and his wife were confined there, hence the name.) 'Zen-en' is highly particular about its ingredients. The current head chef comes from a renowned restaurant and possesses exquisite skills. Under his guidance, the restaurant updates its course menu every month, selecting the most suitable seasonal ingredients to create dishes that incorporate the changes of the four seasons. The signature dish, Natural Sea Bream Rice, uses wild sea bream from the Akashi Strait, known for its excellent texture. Seasoned only with sake and salt, it is cooked over an open flame in a special clay pot, allowing the umami of the sea bream to fully infuse into every grain of rice—a truly rare and delicious delicacy. Beyond the taste, every dish at the restaurant is meticulously plated, with the color combinations of ingredients and tableware designed to delight the eyes. The quiet and comfortable Japanese-style interior is another highlight; dining in such an environment is an experience in itself.
