Why not try your hand at creating traditional Yosegi-zaiku (Japanese wooden mosaic marquetry) using wood from Hokkaido?

Yosegi-zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft that involves bonding together various types of wood with different colors to create patterns that highlight the contrast in wood grain and hues.

By intricately combining these parts, delicate and beautiful geometric patterns emerge, created solely by the natural wood.

In this experience, you will take parts bonded together from your choice of wood combinations and carve them by hand to finish the shape.

For the final touch, you will gently coat the piece with rice-derived oil and attach the hardware to complete your one-of-a-kind original accessory, such as earrings, a necklace, a brooch, or a keychain.

No special skills are required, so anyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy this experience with peace of mind.

  • Please meet at the rotary in front of the East Exit of JR Kitahiroshima Station. We will provide a car transfer to the workshop. The travel time is approximately 15-20 minutes. Upon arrival, you will choose from a variety of Yosegi pieces to decide what to make, such as earrings, a necklace, a brooch, or a keychain. You are free to combine and bond them however you like, allowing you to create your own unique Yosegi pattern and complete a one-of-a-kind accessory. After the work is finished, you can relax with Japanese tea and sweets from Naganuma while visiting the gallery.

  • A minimum of 2 traveler(s) are required for the tour to depart. If the number of participants does not reach the minimum requirement, the tour will be canceled. An email regarding tour cancellation will be sent 3 day(s) before the departure date

  • In the event of inclement weather such as typhoons or snowstorms, a decision on whether to cancel the tour will be made 1 day(s) before departure (local time 18:00). Notifications will then be sent via email

  • The tour may be canceled or its content changed in the event of force majeure (circumstances beyond the control of both the customer and our company) as follows: (1) Natural phenomena: If we determine that safe operation is difficult due to severe weather or natural disasters such as storms, heavy snow, lightning, dense fog, earthquakes, tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions. (2) Traffic regulations/infrastructure failure: If it is difficult to arrive at the meeting point or conduct the tour due to road closures caused by bad weather, waiting for snow removal, suspension or delays of public transportation, or other government-imposed traffic regulations. Proof of necessity: Cancellations due to force majeure will be determined based on our company records (Japan Meteorological Agency data, public transport suspension information, etc.), but we may request proof regarding your travel. In the event of a cancellation determined by our company due to force majeure, no cancellation fees will be charged.
