About the Participating Wrestlers
Some Makuuchi and Juryo-division wrestlers from the September 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament rankings will participate.
Please note that wrestlers may be absent due to injury, illness, or other circumstances.
Open Practice
In principle, all wrestlers participating in the regional tour will take part in the open practice. However, some wrestlers may not participate due to injury or health conditions.
Unlike regular practice, which is usually held within each stable or group, regional tours bring together wrestlers from different stables and groups to train seriously in preparation for upcoming tournaments.
This open practice is one of the highlights of the regional tour and offers a rare opportunity to watch wrestlers train seriously. It can be viewed from around 09:00 to 11:00 (scheduled).
Special Sumo Performances
Shokkiri
A humorous performance that introduces prohibited sumo techniques and unusual moves in an entertaining way. Two wrestlers demonstrate and explain these techniques in a fun and easy-to-understand manner.
Sumo Jinku
A traditional Japanese folk song performed during regional sumo tours. Usually, 5–7 wrestlers form a circle while one wrestler sings in the center, accompanied by rhythmic clapping and traditional calls.
Taiko Drum Performance
A traditional style of sumo drum performance showcasing different rhythms and sounds. Historically, sumo drums were used for various ceremonial purposes and to signal the beginning and end of events.
