【What is Sendai Tansu?】

Sendai Tansu is a traditional craft from Miyagi Prefecture, renowned for its sturdy structure, the beautiful 'Kijiro-nuri' lacquer finish on zelkova wood, and luxurious 'hand-forged metal fittings.'

Originating in the late Edo period as storage furniture for samurai, it flourished during the Meiji and Taisho eras. Today, it integrates three craft techniques—joinery, lacquering, and metalwork—representing furniture that balances functionality with artistry.
