About Lishan Guest House
Lishan is a multi-ethnic settlement located in Heping District, Taichung City, Taiwan, home to indigenous peoples, Hakka, Minnan, and veterans (or their families). It is also a place where Atayal culture converges. Situated in the Central Mountain Range at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters, it enjoys a temperate climate and is famous for its pleasant weather, beautiful scenery, and temperate fruits such as pears, peaches, and apples. Since the opening of the Central Cross-Island Highway, it has become the intersection of the eastern and western sections of the highway and the Yilan branch, rapidly developing into one of the earliest and most renowned high-mountain scenic areas in central Taiwan. Together with Lion's Head Mountain in Hsinchu and Bagua Mountain in Changhua, it is known as the 'Tri-Mountain' and is managed by the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Administration.
Lishan Guest House is located at an altitude of 1956 meters on the Provincial Highway 8 (Central Cross-Island Highway). It is the highest palace-style hotel in Taiwan and is situated in the heart of the Lishan area. As a landmark building, it is a must-visit attraction for anyone exploring Taiwan. Construction began in 1959 by order of the late President Chiang Kai-shek, and it was completed in 1965. It was the first hotel built in the area and served as one of the main residences for President Chiang during his inspections of Taiwan and for hosting foreign dignitaries. Its classic, antique appearance has become a landmark of the Central Cross-Island Highway.
