FAQs
What are the recommended types of onsen accommodations or features in Yufuin?
Yufuin offers a rich variety of onsen accommodation options, ranging from traditional Japanese inns to modern hotels. Many onsen ryokans provide rooms with private open-air baths, allowing guests to enjoy the hot springs in privacy. Some accommodations are also renowned for their exquisite kaiseki cuisine, offering a multi-course dining experience with local ingredients. Additionally, you can find unique inns with an artistic ambiance or those boasting scenic views of Mount Yufu, adding a special touch to your trip. Early booking is recommended, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure your preferred accommodation.
Is Yufuin suitable for a day trip? What should I consider for itinerary planning?
Yufuin is suitable for a day trip, but the itinerary will be relatively tight. If you only have one day, it's advisable to focus on Yunotsubo Kaido street near Yufuin Station, Lake Kinrin, and nearby art shops or museums. You can leisurely stroll along Yunotsubo Kaido, sample local snacks, and enjoy the scenery, culminating in a visit to Lake Kinrin to experience its tranquil beauty. Due to time constraints, it's recommended to start early and plan your desired attractions in advance to avoid spending too much time on transportation. For a deeper immersion into Yufuin's onsen culture and relaxed atmosphere, a two-day, one-night trip would be more ample.
Between Yufuin and Beppu Onsen, which is more suitable for families?
Yufuin and Beppu Onsen each have their unique characteristics, making them suitable for different types of families. Yufuin is known for its elegant and tranquil atmosphere, the picturesque scenery around Lake Kinrin, and the numerous charming雑貨店 (zakka shops) and dessert shops along Yunotsubo Kaido, making it ideal for families who enjoy leisurely strolls, sightseeing, and delicious food. Beppu, on the other hand, is famous for its 'Hells of Beppu' (Jigoku Onsen) sightseeing, featuring eight distinct hot spring geysers, which can be a novel and exciting experience for children. There are also more dynamic tourist facilities in the vicinity. If family members prefer natural beauty and a slow-paced experience, Yufuin would be a better choice; if you desire a more interactive and visually stimulating tour, Beppu might be more appealing.
