Journey into landscapes shaped by time on a five-hour heritage rail experience through the world-renowned Taieri Gorge.

Departing from the iconic Dunedin Railway Station, the historic rail line travels into some of New Zealand's most remote scenery, accessible only by rail. Along the way, cross more than 12 bridges and viaducts, pass through 10 hand-carved tunnels, and travel over the Wingatui Viaduct, the largest wrought iron railway structure in the Southern Hemisphere.

At Deep Stream, step onto a century-old viaduct and watch the train cross the gorge toward you, one of the journey's most memorable moments.

From the open-air viewing platform and panoramic carriage windows, experience dramatic river valleys, towering rock faces, and ever-changing landscapes as the railway winds deeper into the Otago interior.

Onboard storytellers bring the journey to life, sharing the people, history, and engineering behind one of New Zealand's most remarkable railway lines. Locally prepared food and drinks are available to purchase from the onboard café throughout the journey.
