Chichibu SL Paleo Express: The popular steam locomotive "SL Paleo Express" runs on the Chichibu Railway. This tour takes you on a 26-30 minute ride from Yorii Station to Nagatoro Station. The sight of the steam locomotive powerfully billowing smoke and the nostalgic sound of its whistle evoke a sense of travel. Another attraction is the view of the rich natural scenery along the route, including the mountains of Chichibu and the Arakawa River, from the train windows. Nagatoro River Rafting: Nagatoro River Rafting is a popular activity that represents Nagatoro. As you navigate the Arakawa River with the skillful pole handling of the boatman, you can enjoy the magnificent nature of the Nagatoro Gorge up close from the boat, including the rock formations designated as a national natural monument. The varied river descent, from gentle currents to rapids where you can feel the spray of water, is also a major attraction. Hodosan Shrine: Hodosan Shrine is one of the three major shrines of Chichibu. Located at the foot of Mt. Hodosan, it is a historic shrine with an impressive shrine building adorned with colorful carvings. It is known for its divine blessings of protection against fire, theft, and various misfortunes, and attracts many worshippers. In autumn, the trees in the shrine grounds and surrounding areas change color, and the beautiful scenery created by the autumn leaves and the shrine building is also a major attraction. The Chichibu SL Paleo Express may have its route changed depending on reservation status.
The itinerary may be rearranged depending on the steam locomotive ride time.
In the unlikely event that the steam locomotive malfunctions (becomes inoperable), an electric locomotive will be used to pull the passenger cars. In that case, the 900 yen ticket fee will be refunded.
The section of the journey where you will ride the steam locomotive will be announced by the tour guide, and the itinerary may be changed or adjusted depending on the riding time.
You will be guided to your assigned seat, but the seating arrangement will be at our discretion. You may be seated with members of other groups.
If the operator determines that it is not safe to go river rafting due to flooding or insufficient water levels in the Arakawa River, they will refund the difference in fare (900 yen for adults, 400 yen for children aged 3 and up to elementary school age) and change the route to a course that circles the Nagatoro rock formations.
The best time to see the autumn leaves may vary depending on weather conditions. Departure dates are set based on typical timings, but please be aware that the leaves may not be at their peak on the day of departure. If you cancel your tour reservation due to the autumn foliage conditions, the prescribed cancellation fee will apply. Please also be aware that we may adjust the time and itinerary to suit the autumn foliage conditions on the day of departure. If the tour has been confirmed to depart regardless of the autumn foliage conditions, the tour will proceed.

Effective May 1, 2025, for domestic travel departing on or after this date, a fee of 1,500 yen per meal will be charged for any changes to meal plans due to food allergies, religious reasons, etc., plus the actual cost of any price difference.
