Product Info

  • This is a private charter plan to enjoy observing and photographing seabirds and wild birds from the water, set in Sendai Bay and around Matsushima. The greatest appeal of this cruise is the ability to photograph the diverse seabirds that visit each season from distances and angles that are difficult to achieve from land. This cruise is specialized for 'photography and observation' and does not involve fishing. We use a small gasoline-powered boat. Because it is agile, quiet, and highly maneuverable, we can flexibly adjust the boat's movement to match the actions of the seabirds you are photographing. We will guide you to photography spots while considering safety and adjusting the approach angle and distance according to your preferences. We have a track record of successful close-range photography from the boat, allowing you to capture immersive, high-impact photos. Since this plan is a private charter, all operational details can be adjusted to meet your requests. We flexibly accommodate requests such as 'I want to follow this bird,' 'I want to stay a bit longer,' or 'I want to observe at a slower pace.' Another unique pleasure of this cruise is the sense of teamwork between the guests and the captain. When a wild bird is spotted, the guest gives directions from the deck, and the captain rushes to the location based on those signals. The sense of unity as you aim, maneuver the boat, and share the perfect shutter opportunity is something you cannot experience on a regular sightseeing boat. In February 2026, guests reported being able to photograph over 20 types of wild birds, including black-necked grebes, black-throated divers, red-throated divers, pelagic cormorants, common goldeneyes, harlequin ducks, ancient murrelets, Japanese cormorants, and ancient murrelets (based on guest feedback). *The birds available for observation and photography vary depending on the season and sea conditions. Although the captain is not a seabird expert, he loves creatures and the sea. Whether it is birds chasing fish, resting on the sea, or the moment they take flight, we will guide you through various scenes that can only be encountered by boat, while staying in tune with the natural flow. As a 'way to enjoy the sea without fishing,' this cruise is recommended not only for photography enthusiasts but also for those new to wild bird observation.
  • Capture seabirds from distances and angles only possible by boat
  • Using the boat's mobility to achieve distances, eye levels, and angles of approach that are difficult from land. This cruise prioritizes positioning for optimal photography.
  • Flexible response to photography requests with our private charter system
  • A small-group private charter. You can adjust the route, speed, and time spent at a spot according to the birds you want to target and the timing.
  • Shutter opportunities created through teamwork between guests and the captain
  • A participatory cruise where the guest gives directions upon spotting a bird, and the captain maneuvers the boat. Enjoy a sense of unity and immersion in your photography.

Regarding cancellation of the event:

  • This plan may be cancelled due to weather, sea conditions, or safety concerns. If it is determined that navigation safety cannot be ensured due to strong winds, high waves, thick fog, or other reasons, the tour may be cancelled even on the day of the tour. As a general rule, we will notify you of the cancellation decision at least one day in advance. If the tour is cancelled at the discretion of the organizer, the participation fee will be refunded in full. However, please note that we cannot compensate for any expenses other than the participation fee, such as transportation costs to the tour location or accommodation costs. As this is an activity that involves dealing with natural conditions, safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Please note the following when participating in this course:

  • This plan is an activity conducted in a natural environment. Because seabirds and wild birds are wildlife, observing and photographing them may not always be possible due to weather, sea conditions, and individual behavior. Please note this in advance. To ensure safety, please follow the instructions of the captain and staff during the voyage and photography. Please refrain from excessive movement, standing, or leaning overboard. Also, please refrain from approaching or chasing wild birds excessively. Please cooperate with us by being considerate of the natural environment and wildlife. If you are concerned about seasickness, please take appropriate precautions, such as taking motion sickness medication, in advance. Please note that the organizer will not be held responsible for any accidents or injuries that occur during this plan unless the cause is the fault of the organizer. If you are feeling unwell or experience severe seasickness, please do not push yourself and inform the captain.

Other important points to note:

  • As this tour is conducted in a natural environment, the route and contents may be subject to change depending on the weather and sea conditions. Although there are basic facilities on board, please make sure to get ready before departure. In addition, photos taken during this tour may be used to introduce our company and for public relations purposes (online, social media, etc.). We will only use photos that have been approved in advance after consultation.

Reminders

  • Participant age: 10 to 80 years old

  • What to wear and bring: In winter, it gets cold at sea, so warm clothing is essential. A windproof jacket, gloves, and a neck warmer will ensure a comfortable stay. There are cabins on board where you can securely store luggage and camera equipment that shouldn't get wet. (Of course, you can lie down and rest during the trip or when you feel a little tired!) In summer, the sun and glare can get hot, so please bring plenty of water. A hat and sunscreen are also a good idea. Please bring your camera, photography equipment, binoculars (if you have them), drinks, a packed lunch, and snacks. Please wear non-slip shoes as your feet may get wet. *For safety reasons, spiked shoes are not permitted.

  • Regarding rental equipment: Life jackets are available for rental. We will lend them out free of charge for the number of participants. For safety reasons, please be sure to wear them while on board.

  • Minimum number of participants: 1 person
