Speaking of the restaurant name 'Zen-en,' it actually has quite a connection to China. The owner took the characters 'Zen-en' from the 'Marshal Zen Garden' in Taiwan, the former residence of Zhang Xueliang. (The 'Marshal Zen Garden' was built in 1920, and from 1960, Zhang Xueliang and his wife were held in seclusion there, hence the name.) 'Zen-en' has very high standards for ingredients. The current head chef comes from a renowned restaurant and possesses exquisite skills. Under his guidance, the restaurant updates its set menu every month, selecting the most suitable seasonal ingredients to create dishes that incorporate the changes of the four seasons. The signature dish, Natural Sea Bream Rice, uses wild sea bream from the Akashi Strait with excellent meat quality. Seasoned only with sake and salt, it is cooked over an open flame in a special clay pot, allowing the umami of the sea bream to fully infuse into every grain of rice—a rare and delicious delicacy. Beyond the taste, every dish is meticulously plated, with the combination of ingredients and tableware colors sure to catch the eye. The quiet and comfortable Japanese-style decor is also a major highlight of the restaurant; dining in such an environment is a pleasure in itself.
