- Explore the "Four Great Gardens of Suzhou" with Lion Grove Garden, renowned for its famous rock formations resembling dancing lions and its maze-like pathways. Originally a Zen temple garden from the Yuan Dynasty, it became a private residence and was cherished by Emperor Qianlong, who visited six times and noted the 500 stone lions. The garden still features a plaque gifted by Qianlong and inspired similar designs in the Summer Palace and Chengde Mountain Resort.
- Visit the Humble Administrator's Garden, founded in the early 16th century during the Ming Dynasty, and renowned as a quintessential example of Jiangnan classical gardens. Named after a line from Pan Yue’s "Ode to Idle Living," the garden preserves its ancient charm despite multiple renovations. Its subtle, refined style remains a valuable highlight.
- Explore Hanshan Temple, primarily featuring Qing Dynasty architecture, including the Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library, Bell Tower, Stele Gallery, Fengjiang Tower, and Shuangzhong Pavilion. The temple’s layout lacks a strict central axis. Admire the ancient Jiangcun Bridge with its stone arch, and the yellow wall, or "mirror wall," between the gate and the bridge. Flank the gate with two ancient camphor trees, and enjoy the classical pavilions with upturned eaves—Fengjiang Tower on the right and Shuangzhong Tower on the left, inspired by the "Night Mooring at Maple Bridge" poem.
- Named after the Shantang River, Shantang Street dates back to the Tang Dynasty (825 AD) when poet Bai Juyi, serving as Suzhou’s governor, dredged the river to create a direct water route from the city’s northwest to the foot of Tiger Hill. The excavated earth formed a raised embankment, creating a broad road leading to the hill, initially known as Wuqiu and home to Wuqiu Temple. This road, described by Bai Juyi as Wuqiu Temple Road, later became known as Baigong Embankment or Qili Shantang. Positioned between the bustling Changmen area and the famous Tiger Hill, Shantang Street evolved into a vibrant commercial and tourist hub.
