【Dongji Island】
Located at a key strategic point in the Taiwan-Penghu sea route, it has been a transit hub for maritime trade since ancient times. Local residents graze sheep here; looking down from the northern hills, the red-tiled houses with white walls and the grazing sheep create a picturesque scene.
Qiming Temple: The spiritual center of Dongji Island, dedicated to Lord Xu. It is believed to date back to the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty.
Dongji Settlement: Due to its proximity to Tainan, the island once had hundreds of residents and enjoyed great prosperity, leading to the construction of many Western-style buildings.
Baguashan and the Eye of Dongji: Located north of the pier, Baguashan features narrow basalt rock formations. On its left side is a circular rock that locals believe resembles an 'eye,' hence the name 'Eye of Dongji.'
Japanese Military Ruins: To the northeast, there are ruins of artillery barracks built by the Japanese military during the Japanese colonial period, known locally as 'Bingcuo' (Soldier's House).
Vegetable Gardens (Caizhai): Numerous stone-walled vegetable gardens surround the military ruins. After the population of Dongji moved away, these gardens were largely abandoned and overgrown. In summer, the crisscrossing paths through the lush green grass look like 'jade tofu.'
Hutou Mountain: Located south of the pier at an elevation of 34 meters, it is named for its shape, which resembles a small tiger crouching on a larger one.
Giant Stone Pillars: Along the coastline, several rock pillars eroded into human-like shapes are known as the 'Stone Giants.'
Dongji Lighthouse: Built atop a 47-meter-high plateau above the northern reefs, it is the highest point on the island.
【Xiji Island Blue Cave Cruise】
A natural wonder of Penghu—the open-roof sea cave 'Zao Long' on Xiji Island, a mysterious blue world. Now known as the 'Blue Cave,' this open-roof sea cave has remained pristine because the island is uninhabited, and the surrounding currents are treacherous and difficult to access.
Xiji Island boasts 'world-class basalt landscapes.' To the north, there is an 800-meter-long basalt wall, and to the northwest, three sea-eroded trenches formed by millennia of seawater erosion, creating a magnificent and awe-inspiring spectacle.
【Dongyuping】
The seabed along the coast is covered in a vast forest of purple coral reefs, home to a variety of marine life! This purple underwater forest, thanks to its isolated location and crystal-clear water, nurtures a rich coral reef landscape and is a precious marine ecological treasure. At a depth of less than 3 meters, if you look closely, you will see that the 'marine lavender' is actually staghorn coral, whose purple exterior takes on a lavender hue under the refraction of light.
【Qimei Island】
Qimei is the southernmost inhabited island in Penghu, best known for its world-famous 'Twin-Heart Stone Weir.' This traditional fishing facility, built centuries ago from stacked basalt, forms a perfect heart shape when viewed from above, making it the most romantic symbol of Penghu. The island also features famous attractions like the Tomb of the Seven Beauties, Big Lion, and Little Taiwan, offering a blend of culture and nature. The best time to photograph the Twin-Heart Stone Weir is at dawn or dusk, when the light is soft and there are fewer tourists.
