This workshop offers a profound cultural immersion, allowing participants to explore the rich history of Vietnamese coffee. You'll gain hands-on experience in making coffee using top specialty beans, guided by local Culture Storytellers. It’s an opportunity to connect with Vietnamese traditions and discover a hidden, unique coffee venue in Hanoi, making it highly valuable for those seeking cultural depth.
At the workshop, you'll learn various traditional Vietnamese brewing methods, distinct from typical Western styles, including the iconic phin filter. You’ll taste a range of distinct flavors, from robust, dark roasts to unique specialties like egg coffee. The experience also includes sampling special fruit-infused liquors, experiencing a broad spectrum of Vietnamese coffee culture.
While condensed milk is a staple in Vietnamese coffee, there are many other unique ingredients. For instance, whisked egg yolk is central to the famous Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng). Coconut milk is sometimes used for a creamy texture, and even fermented yogurt (Sữa Chua Cà Phê) can be found, creating diverse and distinctive flavor profiles unique to Vietnam.
For visitors in Hanoi, convenient and optimal transportation methods include ride-hailing apps like Grab for both car and motorbike services, which are widely available and affordable. Traditional cyclo (rickshaw) rides offer a unique way to explore the Old Quarter. For longer distances or a more private experience, local taxis or pre-booked private car services are also excellent choices.
Hanoi's public transportation, primarily its bus network, is extensive and very affordable, connecting most major areas of the city. While it can be a bit challenging for tourists to navigate initially without local language skills or familiarization with routes, it is generally reliable during operational hours. For simplicity and directness to specific attractions, ride-hailing services are often preferred.
In Hanoi cafes, locals frequently order classics like "Cà Phê Sữa Đá" (iced coffee with condensed milk) or "Cà Phê Đen Đá" (iced black coffee). They often enjoy their coffee slowly, socializing or observing daily life from low stools on the sidewalk. Many also indulge in unique local specialties such as Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng) for a rich, creamy experience.
