No entrance fee is required to enter the Taitung Sanxiantai Scenic Area itself. However, access to the eight-arch bridge connecting the mainland to Sanxiantai is currently restricted due to ongoing bridge repair work. For safety reasons, visitors are temporarily unable to walk to the offshore island. You can still enjoy the Pacific Ocean views and geological landscapes of Sanxiantai from the surrounding area.
The name Sanxiantai in Taitung originates from a legend. It is said that three of the Eight Immortals – Lü Dongbin, Li Tieguai, and He Xiangu – rested here. Three large rocks are scattered on the island, believed to be the footprints left by these immortals, hence the name 'Sanxiantai' (Three Immortals).
The eight-arch bridge at Taitung Sanxiantai is currently closed for pedestrian passage to the offshore island due to ongoing structural repair and reinforcement work to ensure visitor safety. While you cannot walk across to the island, you can still admire the magnificent eight-arch bridge and the sea-eroded platform from the shore, experiencing the unique charm of Sanxiantai.
To get to the Sanxiantai Scenic Area from Taitung City, you can drive or rent a car/scooter and follow Provincial Highway 11 along the coast, with a travel time of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. If you prefer public transportation, you can take the Ding Dong Bus (coastal route) from the Taitung Transfer Station and get off at the 'Sanxiantai' stop. The bus journey also takes about 2 hours.
