The tour guide proactively helped take photos and pointed out the best spots for photos. The group was small, only about a dozen people, so it was very comfortable. Although the location was a bit far, it was very safe to reach. The scenery at Takagi Senso was beautiful, and I would definitely visit again. There are also shops and scenic spots near the volcanic plains, which I also think are worth visiting. If you enjoy scenery...
I joined two different tour groups for two consecutive days, and the service from Xiao Tan and Xiao Shi was excellent. If you don't want to spend time scrambling for train tickets and planning your itinerary, I highly recommend this tour. The schedule is tight, but the stops are all at the best spots. Be prepared for long drive times. The Aso volcano crater is currently closed to the public.
This itinerary leans towards exploring the sights, but the tour guide is very enthusiastic and the itinerary is well-planned, making it suitable for first-time visitors. The Takachiho Scenic Railway offers beautiful scenery, but the information is only provided in Japanese, so it's advisable to do some research beforehand for a better experience.
The weather was fantastic, and Takachiho was beautiful. Although it was the off-season and the trees weren't yet in bloom, I can only imagine how stunning it must be in spring with its cherry blossoms or autumn with its maple leaves. The itinerary was very well-organized, and our guide, Ms. Kong, was incredibly warm and cheerful. She provided detailed introductions to the attractions and offered precise information on photo opportunities and walks. It was a bit of a shame we couldn't climb Mount Aso, but we were still satisfied to see the volcano from afar in Kusanagi. This itinerary is very convenient for those without a car.
I was worried about rowing alone, but when I arrived I learned that women can row solo. Unfortunately, buying tickets at the last minute would mean a long wait and exceeding the allotted time. Because other tourists were late for the group meeting, our guide, Seven, ran to get tickets at several points as soon as we got off the bus, showing great care to give us more time. The driver was very smooth, and the ride was comfortable. The scenery at Takachiho Gorge and Cheonangahara was beautiful, and the little train experience was fantastic. We even received a small Takachiho magatama as a souvenir on the return trip. A wonderful day trip, highly recommended!
