It's a pity we didn't get to the crater, but we did manage to grab a coffee in Kusasenri! 👍 Kusasenri is best visited in summer when the grass is lush and green; on November 22nd, the grass was withered and yellow. Takachiho was beautiful. Lunch was so-so; if possible, I recommend bringing your own bread and snacks to spend more time exploring.
While still struggling to decide what to do, I checked out the Kurokawa Onsen day trip on Kk Day. The weather seemed perfect for hot springs, so I booked it. There was no tour guide; the driver checked names upon boarding. We stopped at Aso Station for a break and arrived around noon. After lunch, we went to a restaurant and bought a one-day hot spring pass at the service center (allowing three or two hot springs plus one souvenir). Remember to bring your own towel; shops sell them if you don't have one. We leisurely spent four hours soaking in two hot springs, choosing a souvenir, strolling through the old town, enjoying the scenery and cute cats – very relaxing and enjoyable! 👍 For the return trip, we boarded at 16:25 from the station opposite the departure station. The driver checked names again, and we returned to Kumamoto around 7 PM.
Buying tickets online before entering the castle is incredibly convenient, avoiding queues. Inside Kumamoto Castle, a mobile app provides a guide, so you won't get lost. A must-see in Kumamoto.
The tour guide was attentive, friendly, and spoke multiple languages. The only downside was the long distance.
