Blue Cave

Although we couldn't go to Qingdong because of the bad sea conditions caused by the typhoon 😭, it was still a very happy experience for my first time trying scuba diving! The instructor took great care of me!

It was so much fun!!! Because it was before the typhoon, we didn't go diving at the Blue Cave, just stayed near the shore. We didn't dive very deep, but for my first time diving, getting used to breathing through my mouth and adjusting ear pressure was enough. Just be careful not to kick anyone, though, since there were a lot of people around. While diving, I was actually pecked by a tiny fish, which bit my lip 😅. The instructor said it might have been intruding on the fish's territory—quite a unique experience!

The Chinese-speaking female instructor was impatient with her child's crying and uncooperative behavior, even though the child was crying loudly. She wanted to leave, like swimming out onto a coral reef, and then return. The waves were quite large that day, making it difficult to stand steadily while swimming out, and she was often kicked by people from other groups.

The bus was large and comfortable, and the staff clearly indicated the pick-up and drop-off times and locations. The driver was very patient and helpful in giving directions (especially considering the heavy traffic and long drives in Okinawa). This time, the shallow water company was Pink Mermaid. Although we couldn't go to the Blue Cave due to bad weather and had to go to another bay instead, the Chinese-speaking staff were friendly and patient, guiding one of our first-time swimmers and creating a great experience. The company also provided lockers (NT$200) and free shower facilities, shower gel, and a hairdryer. Photos could be transferred on-site via iPhone or downloaded via a cloud drive within a week – a convenient and versatile option. The package also included a meal voucher for Okinawan noodles at the nearby Lemon Canteen; the broth was refreshing, and the meat was tender and delicious.

Although we couldn't visit the Qingdong Cave (located further out at sea) due to sea conditions, the algal reefs offered a different view of the underwater world, which was also quite nice.

Thank you for the luck to meet the female coach, who is also from Taiwan. We didn't encounter any queues when taking photos at Qingdong Cave. My child and I can't swim, but thanks to the coach's careful guidance, we felt much more at ease and reassured! (We inexplicably started talking about what kind of fish is delicious?)
