I think Itoshima is the most suitable day trip for seniors in Fukuoka because the attractions are relatively close together, allowing ample time for sightseeing without getting too tired. This time, I was lucky to have a guide named Mao Mao, who was very polite and spoke both Chinese and Korean – quite impressive! Ichiran Ramen is very popular, so there's often a queue; we waited 50 minutes this time. The Akutayama Gate sightseeing boat sometimes stops due to waves, but we were fortunate enough to get a ride. The cave is spectacular. I thought the boat would just go in and circle around, but it only went in a little bit, took photos, and then came back out – still quite fun! The Meoto Iwa (Couple's Rocks) are really beautiful and great for photos! Overall, we had plenty of time at each attraction, making it a very comfortable trip. Highly recommended!
The itinerary was well-organized, covering all the unique features of Itoshima, and the time allotted for sightseeing was just right. The forest café lunch, scheduled for the morning before other tourists, provided a quiet and comfortable morning tea experience. Finally, I want to give the tour guide 5 stars; they introduced the attractions and suggested meals throughout the tour in both Chinese and English. It was a very enjoyable trip.
Participation Date: August 12, 2026 (Tue) 🤐 Overall Itinerary Recommendation: You'll have ample time to appreciate each attraction without feeling rushed! [Actual Itinerary Experience] - Shiraito Falls: You can see Japanese people fishing for trout along the falls in the summer, and there's a flowing water area nearby to experience. The falls themselves aren't large, but you can get very close, and it's just a short walk from the bus stop. - Ichiran no Mori: The space itself is beautiful, but there's not much to see. The main attraction is lunch, and the dining environment here is different from most Ichiran restaurants—one table replaces individual booths. The taste isn't significantly different from other Ichiran restaurants. Also, because the waiting time is unpredictable, there was an estimated 30-minute wait on-site. Fortunately, the tour guide provided ample time for lunch, so you wouldn't be rushed just because you arrived late. Souvenir gashapon toys are sold on-site. - Meotoi Rocks: The Meotoi Rocks with their white torii gates are a great spot for photos. The large waves that day created a magical effect in the photos, highly recommended. - Munakata Taisha Shrine and Miyajidake Shrine: The guide's explanation of the Munakata shrine's history beforehand helped me understand its origins. Miyajidake Shrine is famous for its "Path of Light" view (especially beautiful in February and October). Even outside of peak season, the view of the ocean from the shrine steps is stunning! - The guide was very knowledgeable about each site, especially explaining the historical background and details. It wasn't just a matter of dropping people off at a fixed point. I was fortunate to learn more about Japanese culture during the day trip. I think this provides a great itinerary for the Fukuoka area and recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the Fukuoka suburbs!
I participated in the JRT Ikejima-Yanagawa-Dazaifu tour. The day before the trip, our guide, Ms. Jiang, thoughtfully emailed us with the day's itinerary and helpful reminders. On the day of the tour, we met in front of the Oriental Hotel at the Chikushi Exit of Hakata Station, a very easy-to-find location. The minibus was very comfortable, and Ms. Jiang was very attentive in explaining and arranging the itinerary and assisting with taking photos. I highly recommend this tour.
The cruise ship docked in Fukuoka from 12:30 to 22:00, with actual disembarkation around 1:30 PM. It's recommended to return to the pier by 8:00 PM at the latest to allow ample time for boarding and avoid missing the cruise. We opted for a private English-speaking driver, and the overall experience was excellent! The driver was friendly, punctual, and professional, arranging the smoothest route based on the cruise ship's boarding and disembarking times, real-time traffic conditions, and passenger needs. He provided many practical suggestions and had excellent time management, making the shore excursion easy and efficient. The itinerary included: * Visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, taking a walk, and enjoying local cuisine * Shopping at LaLaport in Fukuoka (UNIQLO, GU, Nike, Onitsuka Tiger, drugstores, etc.) * Shopping for drugstores and souvenirs in Tenjin Shopping District * Enjoying dinner with family in Tenjin. The short 6.5-hour shore excursion not only allowed us to visit all the attractions we wanted but also provided ample time for shopping and dining. There was no rush or transportation issues throughout the trip. If your cruise ship is docked in Fukuoka, we highly recommend choosing a private shore excursion. Not only will it save you time transferring to public transportation, but it also allows you to customize your itinerary to your needs. A professional driver will help plan the most suitable attractions and stopover times, maximizing your limited shore excursion time and ensuring you easily visit all of Fukuoka's popular spots, creating wonderful travel memories.
