Product Info

Discover a quieter and deeply Catholic side of Rome on a three-hour walking tour from the Aventine Hill to Trastevere. Rather than viewing churches as isolated monuments, explore the development of religious life and vocation and the communities that helped to shape Christian Rome.

Across ancient basilicas, monastic foundations and medieval streets, learn how early monasticism developed and how friars and mendicant orders brought new forms of religious life into the heart of the city. Encounter traditions connected with St Benedict, St Dominic, St Cecilia, St Valentine and other saints whose lives reveal different expressions of Catholic vocation.

The experience brings together sacred art, relics, medieval churches and places of living prayer, alongside panoramic views from the Aventine and a walk across the Tiber into historic Trastevere. Your expert Catholic guide explains how architecture, liturgy and religious communities bear witness to centuries of consecrated life.

This is not a generic Trastevere sightseeing tour. Its central theme is the call to religious life: why men and women withdrew from the world, formed monastic communities, preached as friars and answered their vocation in the service of Christ and His Church.

The route lasts approximately three hours and includes hills, steps, cobbled streets and sustained walking. It is not suitable for visitors with significant mobility difficulties. The churches are active places of worship, so access or the order of visits can occasionally change because of liturgies and other church events. Shoulders and knees must be covered. The tour ends in central Trastevere.
