2.5 It is recommended that applicants be 16 years of age or older for overseas trips.
3. Rest stops and activity times may be adjusted depending on actual weather conditions and the pace of the group members.
4. The hotel accommodation and itinerary will be confirmed in the pre-departure notice.
5. In the event of force majeure such as weather conditions, the company reserves the right to make final interpretations of the activity and has the right to temporarily change the itinerary. No refunds will be given to those who leave the group or abandon the trip.
6. Due to the high difficulty of cycling, this activity is not suitable for people with chronic or acute illnesses (such as cardiovascular diseases, etc.). Please consider your physical condition.
7. Legally mandated travel liability insurance only covers "sudden external accidents." Accidents or medical expenses arising from pre-existing or known health conditions (including but not limited to chronic diseases, relapses of acute illnesses, pregnancy, etc.) are not covered. If you feel the coverage is insufficient, participants are advised to purchase other appropriate insurance before the activity, such as travel accident insurance or overseas emergency medical insurance, and confirm that the coverage meets your individual needs.
8. Health Disclosure and Pre-trip Preparations
Travelers are required to provide complete and truthful health information as requested by the travel agency and its staff, and to present valid medical certificates when necessary. These obligations are part of the traveler's legal and contractual obligations. Sufficient physical fitness and health are required to safely complete the entire activity; it is recommended that travelers begin appropriate physical training and conditioning 1 to 3 months prior to departure to ensure the safety and smooth running of the activity. If a traveler fails to provide truthful health information or fails to make sufficient preparations, resulting in a health or safety incident during the activity, the traveler shall bear all related responsibilities.
9. Obligation to disclose physical condition
To ensure tour safety and protect the rights of all group members, participants should truthfully disclose their health condition before registration. If any of the following conditions exist, regardless of whether they are currently undergoing treatment or have recovered, participants should proactively disclose this information:
Pregnancy; history of or current cardiovascular disease, brain disease, cancer, musculoskeletal and connective tissue disease, respiratory disease, other chronic disease, infectious disease; history of alcohol or drug addiction; physical disability or other serious illness.
Participants should carefully assess their own health condition to determine if they are fit to participate in this activity. If necessary, they should consult a doctor for evaluation and recommend that family or friends accompany them. Given that cycling tours are long-distance and physically demanding activities, if participants conceal or fail to truthfully disclose their health information, or if any accidents occur during the activity due to personal health factors, the participants will bear all related responsibilities and losses, and the company will not be held liable.
10. I agree to guarantee my physical and safety condition:
I confirm that I am currently in good health and have no special physical conditions, pregnancy, cardiovascular disease, or other illnesses or symptoms that may affect my safe participation in the activity; if I have any relevant medical history, I have informed the travel agency in advance and have been assessed by myself or my doctor to confirm that I can participate safely.
I have carefully considered my health and physical condition before registering, and have thoroughly understood the activity content and precautions before the event. I promise to abide by all safety regulations and staff instructions.
If any danger or damage occurs during the activity due to personal behavior, judgment, or health factors, the individual shall bear the relevant responsibility, and the travel agency's legal liability shall not be affected.
In the event of an accident, I will apply for a claim in accordance with the insurance company's regulations; for any part not covered by the insurance or for which the insurance amount is insufficient (such as medical expenses caused by the recurrence or deterioration of an illness, or situations that occur outside the insurance period), I agree to bear all personal and property losses myself.
11. Insurance Reminder for Traveling to Meeting Points Independently During Overseas Trips
If participants choose to purchase their own airfare and travel independently from their departure point to the designated meeting point to join the group, the round-trip transportation and safety during the journey are not covered by the travel agency's itinerary and insurance. To ensure personal safety and rights, participants should purchase comprehensive personal travel accident insurance and other necessary insurance at their departure point, and ensure that the insurance coverage is sufficient to cover their self-arranged transportation and activities. Any losses incurred due to lack of insurance or insufficient coverage will be borne by the participant.
12. When filing a claim, you must provide the original or a copy of the medical certificate and receipt (copies are not acceptable).
13. The coverage of legal travel liability insurance is limited to accidents. Accidents caused by one's own health condition are not covered. If you believe that this coverage is still insufficient, please purchase other insurance, such as travel accident insurance or overseas emergency medical and health insurance.
A minimum of 10 traveler(s) are required for the tour to depart. If the number of participants does not reach the minimum requirement, the tour will be canceled. An email regarding tour cancellation will be sent 30 day(s) before the departure date
The highest altitude on this route is 2610m. Please make sure your body can handle high-altitude riding.
Decreased ambient air pressure: The air is thin, reducing the efficiency of oxygen exchange in the lungs and causing a decrease in arterial oxygen levels. When engaging in activities at high altitudes, please slow down your pace, take deep breaths, and pay close attention to your body's reactions.
High altitude symptoms include vomiting, dizziness, headache, slow reaction, and in severe cases, pulmonary edema or cerebral edema. Therefore, those in serious condition should be quickly transported down the mountain.
The temperature difference in the high-altitude climate is large, so please prepare warm clothing and take precautions against the cold.
The mountain roads are narrow, and to ensure a smooth rescue operation, the supply vehicle will remain at the back of the team and proceed in a fixed manner. Riders are advised to bring their own warm coats, water, and food.
Tataka is located within Taiwan's Yushan National Park at an altitude of approximately 2,610 meters. It serves as the highest point on the New Central Cross-Island Highway and a crucial gateway to the main peak of Yushan. Its unique location marks the junction of Nantou, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung counties. The area boasts magnificent mountain scenery, offering panoramic views of the Yushan mountain range, Taiwan's highest peaks. The environment is characterized by pristine forests, alpine grasslands, and rich biodiversity. The climate is cool and pleasant, making it an ideal destination for high-mountain hiking and cycling.
The cycling routes in Tataka are generally considered medium to high in difficulty due to the high altitude and numerous uphill sections. The climb from Shuili or Dongpu all the way to Tataka presents a significant challenge. However, using an e-bike (electric-assist bicycle) will greatly enhance the cycling experience. The electric assist effectively supplements pedaling, allowing riders to tackle inclines with greater ease, enjoy the scenery, and significantly reduce physical exertion. This makes the classic route accessible to more people.
The primary difference between the e-bikes used in the 'Encounter Tataka' tour and regular bicycles lies in their built-in electric assist system. While you still need to pedal, the electric motor provides additional power based on your pedaling intensity, significantly reducing effort, especially on climbs or against the wind. E-bikes typically come with a control panel to adjust assist modes (e.g., Eco, Standard, Sport), enabling you to complete longer rides more easily and enjoy a more effortless cycling experience.
When cycling to Tataka on an e-bike, you should adhere to general bicycle traffic regulations. Always wear a helmet and bright or reflective clothing to enhance visibility. Be mindful of road conditions in mountainous areas, maintain a safe speed and distance, especially on narrow or winding sections of the New Central Cross-Island Highway. Before setting off, ensure the e-bike's battery is fully charged, the brakes are functioning properly, and familiarize yourself with the vehicle's operation to ensure riding safety.
For general cycling or short trail activities in the Tataka region, an entry permit is usually not required. However, if you plan to enter ecological protection areas within Yushan National Park (such as routes to Yushan Main Peak, Qianfeng, etc.) or restricted trails, you must apply for an entry permit and mountain entry permit in advance according to national park regulations. If you are participating in a cycling tour, the organizer will typically assist in confirming and processing the relevant access regulations. It is advisable to reconfirm the tour details beforehand to check if any restricted areas are involved.
Traveling to Tataka from Changhua or surrounding areas is most convenient by car or by joining a tour bus. You can drive from Changhua via National Freeway No. 3 or Provincial Highway 76 to Shuili in Nantou, then transfer to Provincial Highway 21 (New Central Cross-Island Highway) and head uphill to reach the Tataka Visitor Center. Since public transportation options in mountainous areas are limited, if you are not driving yourself, cycling tours often include transportation pick-up services from Changhua, saving you the trouble of planning your own travel.
In addition to challenging the magnificent high-mountain scenery of Tataka, the 'Encounter Tataka' tour route passes by several distinctive attractions. You will cycle along the historically rich Bagang Ancient Irrigation Canal, experiencing the simplicity and fragrance of country roads. You'll also pedal through the lush Ji-ji Green Tunnel, blending nature and culture. Finally, you'll visit a Bunun indigenous village and immerse yourself in the warm and therapeutic Dongpu Hot Springs, enjoying physical relaxation and rejuvenation.
The stopping time along the New Central Cross-Island Highway to Tataka varies depending on individual stamina, weather conditions, and the scenery you wish to admire, but it is generally recommended to allocate ample time. This route is known as the 'Legendary Highway of Taiwan.' Along the way, you can appreciate the spectacular Yushan mountain range, ever-changing sea of clouds, alpine forest ecosystems, and valley landscapes. Numerous viewpoints offer excellent photo opportunities, allowing you to enjoy the unique beauty of Taiwan's high mountains while cycling and experience the grandeur of nature.
