Tomonoura prospered because it was suitable for ships to anchor and wait for the tide, and it was one of the famous places mentioned in the Man'yoshu. Fukuyama Castle is a representative relic of the period when castle architecture reached its peak from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the Edo period.
