Two suggestions: 1. Arrive at the cafe above before 4 PM to have lunch and wait for the sunset, especially in winter when it's windy and cold outside. 2. Avoid peak hours when going up the mountain; it's recommended to go after 7 PM to avoid the crowds taking the cable car down.
I was worried because we were six men who couldn't speak any Japanese, but everything went according to plan as we had originally requested when making the reservation. The driver was kind enough to accompany us at each stop and explain everything, and we had no trouble communicating in English.
I bought a JR Pass from KKday and received it in about three business days. I booked my planned Shinkansen tickets at home beforehand, and when I arrived in Japan, I could exchange them at the JR counter or use the machine to book and select Shinkansen seats. It was really convenient.
