- Attraction Introduction -

  • Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, who is revered in Japan as the God of Learning and the God of Calligraphy, Dazaifu Tenmangu has a 1,100-year history and is respected throughout Japan. It is a sacred site for those praying for academic success. Many parents who care for their children and high school students preparing for entrance exams come here to pray for blessings. Every year, as many as 7 million people visit to offer prayers and write their wishes for success on small wooden plaques. In front of the right side of the main hall stands a plum tree that blooms earliest every spring. Legend has it that it flew here from Kyoto, hence it is known as the Flying Plum (Tobiume). Opposite the Flying Plum is another plum tree, gifted by the Empress at the time, known as the Empress Plum. More than 6,000 plum trees divide the shrine into various areas, featuring many tourist attractions such as the Momoyama-style main hall, which is also the burial site of Sugawara no Michizane, the sacred Flying Plum tree, and the Treasure Hall, which houses national-level cultural artifacts. Flowers bloom throughout the four seasons. Many festivals are held annually, such as the Uguisu-kae (Bullfinch Exchange) Festival in January, the Onisube Festival, the Kyokusui no En (Winding Stream Party) in spring, and the Jinko-shiki Grand Festival in autumn.

  • Yufuin

Located in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, this small mountain town was originally called Yufuin. In 1955, Yufuin and Yunohira Village merged and were collectively called Yufuin, but the station name and basin name have retained the Yufuin designation. Yufuin Onsen is one of Kyushu's premier hot spring resorts and a famous summer retreat, with the third-highest volume of hot spring water in Japan. Yufuin is one of the most representative hot spring towns in Kyushu. You can stroll through the Yunotsubo Street, taste local desserts and specialty snacks, and head to Lake Kinrin to admire the natural scenery reflected on the lake surface. It is recommended to set aside time for a leisurely walk and photography.

  • Beppu Hells: Kamado Jigoku

The Beppu area has numerous hot springs, most of which are branded as Hells. The most famous are the eight Hells of Beppu: Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell), Oniishibozu Jigoku, Yama Jigoku, Kamado Jigoku, Oniyama Jigoku, Shiraike Jigoku, Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Pond Hell), and Tatsumaki Jigoku. Kamado Jigoku is one of them. It is said that since long ago, food was prepared using the heat of the hells during the spring and autumn festivals at the Kamado Hachiman Shrine, which is why it is called Kamado (Cooking Pot) Jigoku. The intense steam and high-temperature hot spring water reach temperatures as high as 90°C.

  • Beppu Ropeway

Breathtaking panoramic views and vibrant colors throughout the four seasons. Kyushu's largest ropeway, capable of carrying 101 people! A 10-minute ride to a world 1,300 meters above sea level! From the mountain top, you can enjoy the magnificent view and the distinct natural beauty of the four seasons, and be completely captivated by the scenery.
