Hatenohama is a natural sandbar, and tidal changes significantly affect boat docking and water activities. In the event of force majeure such as low tide, ebb tide, rough sea conditions, or poor weather, boats may be unable to dock at certain parts of the sandbar, or snorkeling activities may be affected due to shallow water. Therefore, the Hatenohama itinerary may be subject to last-minute adjustments to departure times, boat schedules, docking locations, or activity content based on the day's sea, weather, and tidal conditions. The duration of swimming and snorkeling activities may also be shortened. The actual boat departure time and activity arrangements for Hatenohama will be explained and coordinated by on-site staff based on the day's conditions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Starting from mid-October each year, as the water temperature gradually drops, if the day is unsuitable for swimming, the organizer will arrange for free time on Hatenohama island based on sea conditions. Please understand that no refunds will be provided for this reason.
Flights may be canceled or delayed due to poor weather or sea conditions. In the event of a cancellation, you will be notified in advance via the email address you provided or through customer service. Please check your email (including your spam folder).
This is a 'semi-independent' tour. You must exchange your tickets and board the boat on your own, with no accompanying guide or staff throughout the journey. Upon arrival at Kumejima Gishiro Port, local staff will greet you and guide you to Hatenohama.
Hatenohama is renowned for its three distinct sandbars, featuring pristine white sand and exceptionally clear waters often referred to as 'jellyfish sea.' The unique scenery here is known as 'dream sandbars,' with waters that shift from emerald green to deep blue, offering outstanding transparency. You can also enjoy the underwater ecosystem via glass-bottom boat tours, relax and take photos on the beach, and experience a dreamlike atmosphere as if you were in paradise.
To reach Hatenohama, you first take the OceanJet high-speed ferry from Naha Port in Okinawa to Kume Island's Kaneshiro Port, a journey of approximately 90 minutes. Upon arrival at Kume Island, you will receive complimentary port shuttle service. From there, you will transfer to a glass-bottom boat to Hatenohama, experiencing a unique sandbar tour. This offers a convenient same-day round trip option.
The clear waters of Hatenohama are perfect for a variety of water activities. You can freely snorkel to explore the rich underwater world, admiring tropical fish and coral reefs. Additionally, swimming, playing in the water, sunbathing on the pure white sandy beaches, and capturing beautiful photos of the 'dream sandbars' and 'jellyfish sea' are popular activities. Snorkeling equipment rental is also available on-site.
The one-way trip on the OceanJet high-speed ferry from Naha Port to Kaneshiro Port on Kume Island takes approximately 90 minutes. This fast and direct route allows you to make efficient use of your time, easily enjoying a day trip to Kume Island, with the ability to return to Naha the same day, saving the need for overnight arrangements.
The best time to visit Hatenohama is generally from late spring to early autumn (around April to October). During this period, Kume Island experiences clear weather, warm seas, and high visibility, making it ideal for water activities like snorkeling and swimming. Specifically, April to June offers pleasant, cooler weather, avoids peak summer crowds, and generally has calmer sea conditions, making it a great time to enjoy the beauty of the 'jellyfish sea.'
The free time allocated at Hatenohama is usually around 1.5 hours. This duration is sufficient for you to fully enjoy the beauty of this dreamlike sandbar. You can snorkel to explore the underwater world, swim in the clear waters, stroll along the sandbar, or find the best angles to capture unique landmark photos, fully experiencing the charm of Hatenohama.
In addition to Hatenohama, Kume Island itself has many other attractions worth exploring in depth. You can visit the unique geological landscape of 'Tataiwa' (Tatami Rocks), the historic 'Uezyu-ke' ancestral home, admire the spectacular 'Goshino Matsu' (Five-Branch Pine), or head to 'Hiyodari Banta' for panoramic ocean views. These sites showcase Kume Island's rich natural scenery and cultural history.
Kume Island boasts many unique local delicacies. You shouldn't miss the 'Kumejima Soba,' made with local noodles, and taste the sweet, fresh flavor of 'Kumejima Kuruma Ebi' (Kume Island King Prawn). Additionally, Okinawan specialty dishes like 'Goya Champuru' (bitter melon stir-fry), 'Okinawa Soba,' and specialty snacks and drinks made with local beni imo (purple sweet potato) and umi budo (sea grapes) are must-try culinary experiences when visiting Kume Island.
