- Activity introduction -

[Plan A: Hiking on the Maolai Farming Trail]
Maao and Lailai are two settlements located at the north end and south side of San Diaojiao headland respectively. At the northern end of Maao, there is a good harbor with a natural bay facing the sea, and three streams on the mountainside provide abundant fresh water resources, forming a prosperous settlement with mountains and seas. Lailai on the south side is protected by San Diaojiao Cape, which withstands the strong northeast monsoon in winter. The offshore sea conditions are more stable than other settlements. Therefore, many residents used to live here by the sea. There are also 2 fishing villages. The permanent fishing grounds for bonito are at sea.

Since the Japanese colonial period, Maao, which is surrounded by mountains and sea, has been known as Little Keelung. It is surrounded by terraced fields, a fishery association (organized by a fishermen's association), a bonito festival processing factory (making bonito), and the Maao branch of Gongliao Public School. It is a very lively large settlement, so the residents of the surrounding settlements will also go to Maao to work, trade or go to school, etc. Therefore, when residents of the two places travel between places, they will choose the shorter "Mountain Road-Maolai Ancient Road" because taking the coastal route takes more than twice the time. This time, the local tour guide led everyone from Maao to get to know the life of Caspian Sea and Mountains. They followed farming paths, irrigated water towns, crossed the Keng Nei River, and walked into the small and independent settlement of Lailai.
Transportation information:
Parking information for self-driving cars: Parking is available at Maao Liyang Palace Square and in open spaces in Maao Community.
Public transportation: Starting from Taipei, you can take the train to Fulong Railway Station and transfer to bus 856 (Taiwan Travel-Golden Fulong Line) to Fozu Temple Station. (The Fulong bus stop is located on the left corner below the police station.)
Return @ Lai Lai Secret Land: Walk for about 20 minutes back to Magang Community, then take bus 856 (Taiwan Haoxing-Golden Fulong Line) back to Fulong.

[Plan B: Marais Coast Trail Guide]
Magang, the easternmost fishing village in Taiwan, is not located in Taitung or Lanyu, but under San Diaojiao, a promontory close to the junction of New Taipei City and Yilan. The headland of San Diaojiao is also the northernmost point of the Snow Mountain Range. After the mountain range meets the sea, it subsides towards the sea. Bounded by San Diaojiao, the terrain to the north is dominated by large headland bays, such as Mao'ao and Yangliaobi, while to the south there are mainly sea erosion platforms, single-sided mountains and tofu rock terrain.

Therefore, by circling the coastline of San Diaojiao, you can not only collect "Taiwan's easternmost point", but also collect many of Taiwan's unique coastal landscapes and geological knowledge. During the journey, the association's commentators will lead you to observe the unique forms and characteristics of coastal plants that adapt to strong winds, high salt content and water-deficient environments along the coast. They will also use leaves to make sea paper rubbings and bring back unique travel souvenirs.
Transportation information:
Parking information for self-driving cars: You can park in the open space near Magang Civic Center, or park at the San Diaojiao Lighthouse Trail parking lot.
Public transportation:
Departing from Taipei: Take the train to Fulong Railway Station, then transfer to bus 856 (Taiwan Travel - Golden Fulong Line) to Magang Station. (The Fulong bus stop is located on the left corner below the police station.)
Departing from Yilan: Take the Green 19 bus (Taiwan Hao Xing - Yilan Northeast Corner Coastline) from Jiaoxi Transfer Station to Y13-Magang Station.
Return @ Lai Lai Secret Land: Towards Taipei: Walk for about 20 minutes back to Magang Community and transfer to bus 856 (Taiwan Hao Xing - Golden Fulong Line).
Toward Yilan: Take the Green 19 bus (Taiwan Hao Xing - Yilan Northeast Corner Coastline) heading toward Magang or Yilan.

[Plan C: Sea Waste Creation Experience]
Lailai, located on the south side of San Diaojiao, is exposed to cool southerly winds in summer, and is blocked by the headland from the cold northeast monsoon in winter. It is a hidden but livable corner secret.

The coast is a large sea erosion platform, surrounded by rich marine resources. However, with excessive human waste, climate change, and changes in the marine environment, rich marine resources are gradually being replaced by a large amount of marine debris. These wastes are carried to coastlines around the world along with ocean currents and waves, and may also turn into plastic particles, enter the food chain, and return to our bodies. Therefore, in the third part of the Lai Lai Little Travel Plan, volunteers from the association will lead everyone to clean the beach and remove visible marine debris, hoping to make the marine environment better in the future.
This time, I am also very happy to cooperate with Fulong's "Starry Sky Art Village" to use sea glass to create a memory between myself and the sea. These memories remind us of the importance of protecting the marine environment and allow us to have a deeper connection with nature.
Transportation information:
Parking information for self-driving cars: temporary parking on both sides of Binhai Highway (please pay attention to safety)
