Certain sea areas in Xiaoliuqiu are designated as marine ecological protection zones, where the capture of aquatic life is prohibited. Before engaging in sea fishing activities, it is essential to understand the no-fishing zones and relevant regulations announced by local authorities, such as those from the Fisheries Agency and the Pingtung County Government. Adhering to these rules is crucial for protecting marine ecosystems and avoiding legal issues. It is recommended to fish in legally permitted designated areas or participate in tours led by professional guides to ensure compliance with regulations and a safe experience.
The waters surrounding Xiaoliuqiu are rich in fish species. During sea fishing trips, common catches include damselfish, whipfin bannerfish, many-lined sweetlips, red snapper, and groupers. These are all common tropical fish species in the area. The types of fish caught will vary depending on the season, tides, and fishing spots. Participating in sea fishing from a floating dock allows you to enjoy interacting with the ocean while experiencing the local fishing lifestyle.
Xiaoliuqiu is suitable for water activities year-round, but the best season is generally from April to October each year. During this period, the weather is stable, and water visibility is high, making it ideal for sea fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling. Avoiding the winter months affected by the northeast monsoon provides clearer waters and calmer sea conditions, offering the best activity experience and comfort.
Xiaoliuqiu is an important habitat for sea turtles, and sightings are possible year-round. However, visibility is typically highest in spring and autumn, especially during high tide in the early morning or late afternoon. When snorkeling, it is imperative to maintain a safe distance and avoid touching or chasing sea turtles to prevent disturbing their natural behavior. Participating in snorkeling tours led by professional instructors can help you safely observe sea turtles and learn about marine conservation.
The sea fishing experience from Xiaoliuqiu's floating dock is unique. It is a floating platform set up offshore, providing a more stable fishing environment. These platforms often include shaded areas and beverage service, allowing you to enjoy fishing comfortably at sea. Compared to shore fishing, the floating dock offers access to deeper waters with a richer variety of fish species, increasing the success rate and diversity of your catch.
The 'Xiaoliuqiu Fishing Fun' is a comprehensive experience tour that includes exciting sea fishing activities, as well as kayaking and snorkeling. Visitors can kayak to the floating dock to enjoy fishing on the offshore platform. After the fishing, you can freely choose to snorkel and admire Xiaoliuqiu's abundant marine life up close. Meals are also provided during the tour, allowing for a complete island experience.
