Nami Island is beautiful year-round, but winter is particularly popular. Autumn (October-November) offers romantic scenery with golden foliage, while winter (December-February) is covered in snow, offering a chance to experience the 'Winter Sonata' snowy landscapes. Spring cherry blossoms and summer greenery also have their own unique charm. If you wish to avoid crowds, it's recommended to visit on a weekday for a more relaxed enjoyment of the island's scenery.
A Nami Island day trip typically includes a walk around the island, renting bicycles to leisurely explore the tree-lined paths, and exciting experiences like riding the aerial bicycle or ziplining. The island also features filming locations for K-dramas like 'Winter Sonata', the Metasequoia tree-lined road, themed exhibitions, and artistic performances, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature and art, and feel a unique romantic atmosphere.
The main transportation options to Nami Island include taking the ITX Cheongchun train to Gapyeong Station, then transferring to the Gapyeong City Tour Bus or a taxi to the Nami Island Ferry Terminal. You can also opt for a tour bus departing from Seoul that goes directly to the Gapyeong Ferry Terminal. If you join a day trip, it usually includes dedicated shuttle service, saving you the hassle of planning transportation and making it more convenient.
The Cheongyang Alps Village Ice Fountain Festival is a winter-exclusive grand event. Activities include admiring giant ice fountains tens of meters high, spectacular ice walls, and exquisite ice sculptures. It also offers diverse winter experiences such as ice sledding, ice fishing, and bare-handed trout catching. Visitors can also enjoy warm drinks at the ice house cafe and experience a unique world of ice and snow.
The best time for strawberry picking experiences in Korea during winter typically runs from December to May of the following year. January to March is the peak season for strawberries, when they are at their most flavorful, sweet, and juicy. Many farms offer greenhouse picking experiences, allowing visitors to pick fresh strawberries themselves even in the cold winter.
The ice wall landscapes of Eobi Valley (Eobi Ice Valley) are most spectacular in winter. Annually, from around late December to late February of the following year, giant icicles and ice walls form on both sides of the valley, presenting a breathtaking and unique winter spectacle. It is recommended to visit when the temperature has been consistently low to see more complete and grand ice wall formations.
The Cheongyang Ice Festival offers a variety of sledding experiences suitable for visitors of all ages. In addition to common snow sledding, there may be other types such as ice sledding and traditional sledding. Some venues have dedicated slopes to ensure visitors can safely enjoy the fun of sledding to the fullest, adding excitement and joy to the winter journey.
