Product Info
Explore Japanese pottery from different perspectives through sake tasting and working with clay.
Begin in the studio’s gallery with ceramics from Tottori and Shimane. Learn about Japanese 'mingei'—folk crafts rooted in local life, and the appreciation of beauty in everyday objects. Explore the shapes and textures of the pottery, then choose an 'ochoko,' a small Japanese sake cup, for your tasting.
Taste three sakes from San’in, the region that includes Tottori and Shimane. With the instructor’s explanations, compare their aromas and flavors. You can continue enjoying sake with unlimited refills during the pottery session. Both the tasting and the sake served during the session are included in the price.
After the instructor’s demonstration and explanation, shape the clay by hand to create one piece of pottery. Discuss your ideas with the instructor, whether you would like to make a cup for the sake you have just tasted, a matcha bowl, or a plate. Your instructor, a ceramic artist, will provide attentive guidance, including for those trying pottery for the first time. Enjoy your favorite sake as you spend time working with the clay.
