Full day in Athens - Acropolis and other sites｜Greece

The first stop of the tour in Athens is undoubtedly the Acropolis of Athens with the Parthenon, the ornate building of the Ancient Greek era that is admired by the whole world and is famous both for its history and its architecture. The route to the Acropolis is essentially a climb of this sacred rock to its top from where we can see many more sights, remnants of the Golden Age of Athens in the 5th century. On the hill, brilliant historical monuments can be seen standing such as the Propylaia, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion which remain unsurpassed through the centuries to this day.

From the Acropolis we can see from afar the Conservatory of Herodes Atticus (Herodeion), one of the most impressive conservatories of the Roman period. The archaeological site of the Acropolis gives us the impression that we are reliving a different era as our guide tells the history of this magnificent place. We thus travel to the period when democracy was founded in Greece and when philosophy emerged through the words of Socrates and many other important philosophers of the time.

Descending towards the Acropolis Museum, we can admire the modern architecture of the museum with the classical and ancient Greek exhibits it houses such as statues, vases and reliefs. Leaving the museum, we take a tour of Plaka, a settlement of whitewashed houses, flower gardens and alleyways lined with small souvenir and food shops. At this point we have the opportunity to enjoy the Greek cuisine with its delicious dishes and to rest for a while before resuming our tour.

Continuing our route by road, we see the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro), which the Ancient Athenians used for the celebration of the Panathenaia, a festival dedicated to the goddess Athena. Next, we come across the Greek Parliament, a place with a long history that once functioned as an old palace of King Otho and which is now called the “Building of the Parliament of the Greeks”. Our final destination is Lycabettus with a breathtaking view of Athens.
