The highest altitude on this route is 3275m. Please make sure you are physically fit for mountain riding.
Decreased ambient air pressure: The air is thin, reducing the efficiency of oxygen exchange in the lungs and causing a decrease in arterial oxygen levels. When engaging in activities at high altitudes, please slow down your pace, take deep breaths, and pay close attention to your body's reactions.
High altitude symptoms include vomiting, dizziness, headache, slow reaction, and in severe cases, pulmonary edema or cerebral edema. Therefore, those in serious condition should be quickly transported down the mountain.
The temperature difference in the high-altitude climate is large, so please prepare warm clothing and take precautions against the cold.
The mountain roads are narrow, and to ensure a smooth rescue operation, the supply vehicle will remain at the back of the team and proceed in a fixed manner. Riders are advised to bring their own warm coats, water, and food.
Public toilet facilities are lacking in mountainous areas, so please pay attention to the availability of sanitation facilities at each rest stop.
In Taiwan, electric-assist bicycles (E+Bikes) are generally treated as regular bicycles if their motor assistance cuts off at 25 km/h and the motor output is within specified limits. Riders on the Wuling route should adhere to general road safety regulations, wear helmets, and be aware of mountain road conditions. Always ensure your E+Bike complies with local traffic laws.
Yes, Giant E+Bikes are electric-assist bicycles, meaning they provide motor power to supplement your pedaling effort. You still need to pedal for the bike to move, but the electric motor makes challenging ascents, like those on the Wuling route, significantly easier and more enjoyable. This allows riders to conquer steep slopes that might otherwise be difficult.
To reach Wuling directly without cycling, common options include driving a private car, hiring a private driver, or taking public buses. While direct bus services to Wuling summit are limited, you can often take a bus to nearby hubs like Puli or Hualien, and then arrange onward transportation or a tour. Be mindful of mountain road conditions and potential closures, especially during winter.
Wuling is generally accessible by scooters and cars, as it's Taiwan's highest road pass on Provincial Highway 14A. However, vehicles must comply with general traffic laws. During winter or periods of adverse weather, sections of the road, particularly around Hehuanshan, may be subject to snow or ice control, requiring snow chains or even temporary closures for all vehicles for safety reasons. Always check road conditions before heading out.
The optimal time to visit Wuling for cycling or scenic views is typically during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer cooler, more comfortable temperatures for cycling and often provide clearer skies for breathtaking panoramic views. Summer (June to August) brings pleasant cool mountain air, while winter (December to February) can be beautiful with potential snow, but requires careful planning due to cold weather and icy roads.
Yes, Wuling is an integral part of the Hehuanshan mountain range. It is famously known as Taiwan's highest road pass, situated at an elevation of 3,275 meters. Hehuanshan is a collection of peaks within the Central Mountain Range, and Wuling marks a significant point within this majestic alpine region, offering stunning views and serving as a gateway to various hiking trails and natural attractions.

You'll enjoy expansive views of the river itself, surrounded by lush green valleys and majestic, rolling mountain ranges. The ride offers a serene journey through nature, with opportunities to appreciate the diverse flora and the tranquil, picturesque landscapes that define this part of the ascent towards Wuling.
During the Wuling cycling tour, transitioning into the Qijiawan Stream area reveals distinct natural features. This stream is renowned for being a critical habitat for the Formosan landlocked salmon, a protected species. Visitors can observe its crystal-clear, cool mountain waters and the rich biodiversity of high-altitude flora that thrives in the refreshing alpine climate. The serene environment and unique ecology make it a memorable part of the journey.
