The most special time to visit Izumo Taisha is during the tenth month of the lunar calendar each year. At this time, all the gods from across Japan gather here to discuss the fate and relationships of the human world for the coming year with Okuninushi, the "God of Relationships." This period is known as "Kamiarizuki" (Month of the Gods), while other regions call it "Kannazuki" (Month without Gods) because their deities are absent. Therefore, if you wish to experience the mythical atmosphere, the tenth lunar month is the best choice. However, Izumo can be visited year-round, with each season offering its unique charm.

Izumo Taisha enshrines Okuninushi Okami, the Japanese god of matchmaking. Worshippers primarily come to pray for good relationships and fortunate encounters in various aspects of life, including love, marriage, family harmony, business success, and bountiful harvests. Okuninushi is the protagonist of the "Kuniyuzuri" (transfer of the land) myth in Japanese mythology, and his divine power is vast and deeply trusted by people.

When you visit Okuizumo, Izumo Taisha is an absolute must-see sacred site, on par with Ise Jingu, making it one of Japan's most important ancient shrines. Additionally, don't forget to visit the Adachi Museum of Art with its beautiful Japanese garden, climb the magnificent Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse, or head to the Shimane Aquarium AQUAS. Praying for good fortune at Tamatsukuri Yunagi Shrine, also known for its matchmaking blessings, will also enrich your journey.

For visiting Izumo Taisha, it is recommended to allocate approximately 1 to 2 hours. If you wish to thoroughly soak in the atmosphere, walk through the four torii gates, and admire the bronze statue of Okuninushi and the statue of the White Rabbit of Inaba, at least 1 hour is needed. If you want to enjoy local snacks or buy souvenirs at the approach street, allocating 1.5 to 2 hours would be more relaxed, including the time for worship. If you plan to visit nearby attractions like Inasa-no-hama beach and the old Taisha Station, you can plan for a half-day or a full-day itinerary.
