The roads in Rottnest have many uphill and downhill sections, so cycling requires a fair amount of physical strength. However, it was a great experience. We saw lots of quokkas, and the ocean was beautiful.
Choose a convenient time to travel and redeem your ferry ticket at the ticket exchange counter 30 minutes before departure, as instructed. Bicycle and bus routes on the island vary depending on the terrain. The island's cycling route is approximately 22 kilometers. If you prefer cycling, you can rent an electric bike upon arrival. While the rental fee is high, a deposit is required, and it's more energy-efficient. This time, we opted for a hop-on, hop-off bus tour, which is economical. The bus driver will provide simple English instructions at each stop. The island circuit takes about an hour, with buses departing every 20 minutes. For those with limited stamina and a desire to avoid the arduous journey, the bus is a great option. We highly recommend Little Salmon Bay and the farthest stop (both walking distances; Cathedral Rocks offers seal viewing opportunities). If you're visiting in the summer, water enthusiasts should definitely try the Jelly Sea.
