Komodo Island

The easiest way to access the Komodo Islands is by flying into Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores and staying in Labuan Bajo for a boat tour or diving activities from there. Because of flight schedules, you MUST arrive a day before your tour and stay a night in Labuan Bajo.

The park's closure stems from a pressing need for environmental recovery. Years of intense tourist activity have placed pressure on the delicate ecosystem. The closure aims to allow the park's natural resources and, most importantly, the Komodo dragon population, a chance to recuperate.

For backpackers, expect to spend $50 – $80 per day including budget stays and shared boat tours. Mid-range travelers can anticipate $100 – $200 per day for private hotels and speedboat tours. Luxury travel can exceed $300 per day with resort stays and private boat charters.

It is well worth the trip. Many companies offer day tours out of Labuan Bajo, so you can easily explore the hills of Padar, chill with the dragons on Komodo Island, relax on Pink Beach, and snorkel at Manta Point.

Komodo Island is famous for its resident Komodo dragons, the world's largest lizards. Visitors can also experience the unique Pink Beach, known for its rosy-hued sand, and incredible snorkeling and diving opportunities, especially at Manta Point.
