Kedah Paddy Museum

As the main producer of Malaysia’s staple food, it is absolutely well-earned for Kedah to have its very own Paddy Museum. In fact, this museum is the first paddy museum in Malaysia and the fourth in the world, after Japan, Germany and the Philippines.

Spanning across 12,000 square meters, this huge museum consists three floors housing devoted all the knowledge and information related to paddy. The highlight is a 360° diorama portraying panoramic views of the paddy fields.

Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim

For adventure-seekers, this attraction is going to excite you. Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim is the world’s longest rainforest canopy walk. The steel bridge is 1.5 km long and elevated at 26 meters above the ground for a bird’s-eye view.

Hidden away, it allows a one-of-its-kind adventure for its visitors in this uncharted forest. For those who are not a fan of heights, you can opt for the shorter route.

Gunung Jerai

Gunung Jerai was formerly known as Kedah Peak. Stands proud at 1,175 meters of height, this highest peak of Kedah lies within the border of Kuala Muda and Yan districts. The mountain is a massive limestone outcrop and a lone feature from the surrounding geography of the area. A great view of Straits of Malacca awaits you once you reach the top.

Merdeka Beach

Located opposite to Gunung Jerai and Tanjung Dawai, Merdeka Beach is a popular spot in Kedah. The long sandy beach is a perfect place to relax or even to have a picnic with family and friends. There are plenty of stalls and street food sold at the beachfront shops, so you shop and eat while enjoying the sea breeze.

Pekan Rabu Complex

One of the locals’ prides for tourists, Pekan Rabu Complex located right in the heart of Alor Setar. Despite its name, Pekan Rabu which literally means Wednesday Market, actually opens throughout the week.

There is a wide variety of goods sold here, from groceries to clothes and bag, at super cheap price. You can even find local food made by Kedahans themselves! This is also the best place to shop for souvenirs and trinkets.

Zahir Mosque

Zahir Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Malaysia. It was built in 1912 by Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin II. Its architecture was inspired by the design of Azizi Mosque in North Sumatra. The religious site consists of five main parts, which represent the Five Pillars of Islam.

On top of that, Zahir Mosque was also voted as one of the top 10 most beautiful mosques in the world. While you are in Kedah, don’t miss the chance to admire this majestic grandeur.
