Discover Buffalo’s story through the lives of its remarkable women on a 90-minute guided walking tour. From some of Buffalo's female pioneers in charity, activism, business and entertainment, this experience brings local history to life through personal stories and the places connected to them.
Meet your professional guide at Lafayette Square and set off with a small group to explore key downtown sites while hearing about remarkable Buffalo women. Along the way, you’ll learn about women who defined charity work in Buffalo's waterfront and downtown neighborhoods, and a woman who was instrumental in the early civil rights movement and the NAACP. You'll also hear the stories of the most well-known Irish jig dancer of her day, America's first professional female architect, and two innovative and inclusive business owners of the turn of the last century.
This tour is designed for curious travelers and locals alike: it’s walkable, story-driven, and focused on the people behind the city’s landmarks. Bring comfortable shoes, arrive a bit early, and get ready to hear Buffalo's story through the voices we don't always hear from—the women who left a lasting mark on its culture and community.
