Ouarzazate: 2-Day Erg Chegaga Dunes Tour & Starry Night Camp｜Morocco

Begin your adventure with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Ouarzazate. Travel in a comfortable private 4x4 with an experienced local driver, leaving the city behind as you cross the dramatic landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

Continue toward the lush Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest oasis, where thousands of palm trees stretch alongside centuries-old kasbahs and traditional Berber villages. Pass through Agdez before following the historic caravan route that once connected Morocco with the great trading centers of the Sahara.

Arrive in M’Hamid, the last village before the vast desert begins, and enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, leave the paved roads behind and venture across nearly 66 km (41 miles) of desert tracks toward Erg Chegaga. Along the way, discover the incredible diversity of the Sahara, from rocky plateaus and gravel plains to hidden oases and endless golden dunes.

Upon arrival, climb aboard a camel and experience the peaceful beauty of the desert as the sun sets over the rolling sand dunes. Back at camp, settle into your comfortable desert tent before enjoying a freshly prepared Moroccan dinner. Spend the evening listening to traditional Saharan music around the campfire while admiring one of the clearest night skies in Morocco.

Day 2: Erg Chegaga – Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Fint Oasis – Ouarzazate

Rise early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, one of the most memorable moments of your desert adventure. After breakfast at the camp, continue your journey by 4x4 across the untouched Sahara.

Drive past the impressive Erg Chegaga dunes before crossing the dry bed of the Draa River toward Lake Iriki, a vast salt-covered plain that was once a seasonal lake. Continue along sections of the famous former Paris-Dakar Rally route, surrounded by dramatic volcanic landscapes and wide-open desert scenery.

Stop in Foum Zguid for lunch before beginning the return journey to Ouarzazate. Along the way, you may visit the town of Taznakht, renowned throughout Morocco for its handwoven Berber carpets, and enjoy a relaxing stop at the peaceful Fint Oasis, where palm groves and traditional villages create a beautiful contrast to the surrounding desert.

Arrive back in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon, bringing your unforgettable Sahara experience to a close.
