Discover the world of wool and the textile traditions of the Alentejo through an authentic artisanal experience in Monsaraz. This activity invites participants to slow down, connect with nature, and learn ancient wool-processing techniques, from fiber to yarn.
The experience takes place in a peaceful rural setting, surrounded by the Alentejo landscape and the presence of the sheep whose wool is used during the workshop. Throughout the activity, participants will have direct contact with different types of Portuguese wool and will learn, in a hands-on and sensory way, the various traditional stages of the artisanal process.
During the workshop, you will: • Learn about Portuguese wools and their cultural context; • Learn how to assess the fleece and the wool fibers; • Explore wool preparation techniques, including carding; • Try your hand at hand spinning with a spindle; • Use a small tabletop loom to create a handmade textile piece.
No previous experience necessary. This activity is designed for beginners, the curious, and those who love authentic cultural experiences. All materials are included.
