Set off on a memorable canoe adventure along the Altmühl River, starting at the AKTIV MÜHLE in Solnhofen. This self-guided day tour covers 13 kilometers of gentle paddling, perfect for both beginners and experienced paddlers. After a thorough safety briefing and equipment handover, you’ll launch your canoe and soon approach the impressive “Zwölf Apostel” limestone formations, a highlight of the region’s Jurassic landscape.
As you continue downstream, the river winds through lush meadows and quiet stretches, offering a peaceful escape into nature. About an hour into your journey, you’ll reach the Hammermühle weir, which is navigable and features a welcoming beer garden—an ideal spot for a riverside rest or a Bavarian snack. Further along, test your skills on the boat slide at Hagenacker, a fun and safe way to experience a bit of river excitement.
The tour concludes at the Dollnstein boat dock, where you return your canoe and equipment. From here, you can easily travel back to Solnhofen by train, with departures running hourly, or by using your own pre-arranged transport. For those looking to extend the experience, consider a meal at the MÜHLENWIRT or an overnight stay at the INSEL CAMP, where you can unwind by the water and soak up the natural beauty of the Altmühltal.
