After picking you up, we will head towards Bulgaria; following a journey of approximately two hours—which includes crossing the Danube via the Friendship Bridge (built between 1952 and 1954)—we will arrive at the ruins of the Cherven Fortress, a medieval stronghold dating back to the 11th century. Our journey will then continue to Veliko Tarnovo, the capital of the former Vlach-Bulgarian Empire, where we will explore the history of the Tsarevets Fortress, complemented by a tour of the city's wonderful historic center. On the return trip to Bucharest, we will pause to experience a piece of antiquity at Nicopolis ad Istrum, a city founded in the early 2nd century by Emperor Trajan.
Embark on a one-day trip to Bulgaria to discover the history of the Wallachian-Bulgarian Kingdom. Learn about the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, a multiethnic state that emerged on the lower Danube in 1186, with the victory of the Bulgarians and the Vlachs who rebelled from the south of the Danube against the Byzantine Empire.
Hear about how the Wallachian-Bulgarian Kingdom was equally Wallachian (Aromanian south of the Danube and Romanian to the north) and Bulgarian. Learn about how within this state two populations coexisted, one Romanian-speaking, the other Slavic-speaking, throughout its entire territory.
Discover the Medieval Fortresses of Cherven, Tsarevets and Trapesitsa, but also a part of Roman Empire History- Nicopole Ad Istrum, "The City of Victory", from 106.
