Spend three unforgettable days living alongside a Sámi reindeer-herding family in the Arctic winter of Northern Norway.
This is not a sightseeing tour or a staged cultural show. It is an immersive, off-grid experience where guests become part of daily Sámi winter life, shaped by reindeer, weather, fire, silence, and the Arctic tundra.
The experience takes place in a remote winter grazing area outside Hammerfest, in Finnmark, Northern Norway — far from roads, cities, and artificial light. Guests stay with a Sámi reindeer-herding family and follow the natural rhythm of winter life, where there are no fixed schedules and nature decides the pace.
Over three days and two nights, guests take part in real daily activities such as checking on the reindeer herd, feeding animals when needed, gathering firewood, preparing meals, fetching water, and traveling by snowmobile across the tundra. Evenings are spent around the fire in a traditional Sámi winter cabin or lavvu, sharing meals, stories, joik, and quiet moments beneath the Arctic sky.
Northern Lights viewing is a natural part of the experience on clear nights due to the complete absence of light pollution. Guests are encouraged to step outside into the silence of the Arctic night whenever conditions allow.
Accommodation is provided in a traditional Sámi winter cabin with wood heating, no running water, outdoor toilet, and simple, authentic facilities. There is no Wi-Fi, allowing guests to disconnect fully. A generator is available for charging phones and cameras. An optional overnight stay in a traditional lavvu is available for guests seeking deeper cultural immersion.
All meals are prepared by the Sámi host family using local ingredients, including traditional dishes with reindeer meat, Arctic fish, soups, stews, bread, and berries. Vegetarian and dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.
This experience is designed for travelers seeking authenticity, slow life, cultural depth, and meaningful connection — not luxury tourism. Guests must be comfortable with cold weather, snow, simple living conditions, and active participation in daily life.
The experience runs from December 25 to March 1 and is offered to small, intimate groups to ensure personal interaction and respect for both the family and the reindeer.
