Day 1:
Once you get picked up in Reykjavik, the first stop is Borgarnes, a small coastal village with deep roots in Iceland's Viking age. From there, the route continues to Gerðuberg, where a wall of perfectly formed basalt columns lines the roadside, and on to Ytri Tunga beach where seal colonies haul out year-round.
Búðir comes next, a quiet hamlet sitting at the edge of a lava field with Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano on the horizon. The tour then heads to Arnarstapi, a fishing village built around a dramatic coastline. The stone arch at Gatklettur is the highlight here, carved out by centuries of Atlantic surf. After lunch, you have the option to add a visit into Vatnshellir lava cave - an 8,000-year-old tube that runs beneath the lava fields of the peninsula. Guests who skip the cave can visit the Malarrif visitor center and lighthouse at no extra cost.
The day closes at Djúpalónssandur black sand beach, where the twisted remains of a 1948 British trawler lie scattered across the shore. Four lifting stones sit at the beach entrance - a traditional test of strength Icelandic fishermen once used to gauge a man's worth.
Overnight at Hotel Hellisandur (or similar). In winter (late September to early April), clear skies bring a real chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

Day 2:
After breakfast, we head to see the arrow-shaped peak that rises above Grundarfjörður - Mt. Kirkjufell, featured in Game of Thrones. Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall sits just below it, and the two together make for one of the most photographed spots in the country.
A short stop in Grundarfjörður follows for snacks and supplies before the tour heads inland toward Borgarfjörður valley.
Most likely, you will take a lunch break by Hraunfossar waterfall, where water filters through lava rock and emerges as a long ribbon of cascades along the Hvítá riverbank with no single source, just hundreds of natural springs appearing from the lava field at once. From there, the route continues to Reykholt, a small village that was home to Snorri Sturluson, the 13th-century historian, poet, and author of the Prose Edda and many of Iceland's most important sagas.
Sturlureykir horse farm is next - a family-run working farm powered by geothermal energy. You'll meet the Icelandic horses up close, hear about the breed, and get a real sense of how rural life runs in this part of Iceland.
Just down the road, Deildartunguhver hot spring pushes out more boiling water per second than any other hot spring in Europe. The quiet of the western part will be more apparent as you get closer to the lively capital of Iceland. The tour arrives back in Reykjavík at around 6:00 PM.
