In the dreamlike ambience of the Thuringian farmhouses in Rudolstadt, the oldest open-air museum in Germany, you will meet the well-traveled itinerant apothecary from the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Having just returned from a long journey, he has tales to tell of the macabre, the erotic, the curious, and the delightful from Winzigland. Right before your eyes, he reveals secrets of local everyday life and rambles on about the unique trade in medicinal products and essential oils in the green heart of Germany.   • Know Before You Go: The tour takes place even in light rain, as it is possible to move into the historic buildings if necessary. Remember to bring an umbrella if needed.

  • Know Before You Go: Since we will be walking through the historic grounds of the open-air museum, flat, comfortable shoes are ideal.

  • Know Before You Go: The Thuringian farmhouses have uneven natural paths, cobblestones and historic door thresholds in places. The tour is therefore only partially suitable for wheelchairs and strollers (please inquire in advance if necessary).
