Known as the "White City of Colombia" due to its distinctive architecture, Popayán boasts one of the best-preserved colonial city centers in South America. Despite its small size, with a population of less than 300,000, the city has a vibrant atmosphere, enriched by its rich traditions, history, and a growing university community.

Popayán is renowned for its Easter processions and the Gastronomic Congress, both recognized by UNESCO as "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" and a "Creative City of Gastronomy," respectively.
