The Lake and Paraguayan Culture Route is a unique experience that connects the history, art, and landscapes of Greater Asunción, 45 minutes from Asunción.
The sightseeing tour begins in Areguá, famous for its handcrafted pottery and its picturesque historic center. There you can visit Cerro Koi, declared a Paraguayan Natural Heritage Site, and enjoy an unparalleled view of the natural surroundings.
We'll also visit the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria in Areguá, which dates back to 1862 and was built on the site of the old oratory of the Mercedarians. It was restored between 1912 and 1914 and retains its colonial style, with Gothic-style decorations on its altar. The present church was built in 1862 on the site of a Mercedarian oratory. It became the center around which the city of Areguá grew, making it a historical and spiritual landmark. Its location in "La Loma" offers a privileged view of Lake Ypacaraí. We then visit the arts and crafts market and have the option of visiting local artisans working with ceramics.
Finally, the sightseeing tour ends on the shores of Lake Ypacaraí. After that, there's the option of a typical lunch and free time to relax, stroll along the waterfront, or enjoy the tourist atmosphere of the place.
