Maputo: Santa Maria, Inhaca & Portuguese Island Day Trip｜Mozambique

Our day kicks off with a 1-hour-and-15-minute boat ride across Maputo Bay, giving you time to sit back and enjoy the sea breeze. Keep your eyes open as we get closer to the islands. We’ve got dolphins here all year round, so there’s always a good chance we might spot some on the way. Let’s hope we get lucky! ✨

Our first stop is Hell’s Gate, one of the most interesting natural points in the bay. Here we’ll show you the channel that separates Maputo from Machangulo and Inhaca Island, where the waters meet and the tides move through. We’ll give you a fun and easy geography rundown so you can understand the area while enjoying the scenery.

Next we head to Santa Maria Beach, a beautiful beach with clear water and proper island vibes. We’ll have beach chairs and shade ready for you at our beach camp, so you can just relax and enjoy. If you’re up for some fun, you can go snorkeling on the reefs (loads of fish around there!), explore on foot, or take a kayak out along the shore. We’ll also have some light snacks for us.

After that, it’s a quick 20-minute boat ride to Inhaca Island, where we’ll stop for lunch. You’ll get the chance to enjoy a meal, appreciate local life, and have a look around the village area, including a few souvenir spots if you’d like to take something home.

To finish off the day, we head to Portuguese Island, just a short 10 minute boat ride away. This little paradise island is known for its beautiful beach, shallow waters and peaceful vibe. It’s the perfect final stop to chill, enjoy the beach, take photos, explore, have a swim, or relax before we make our way back after an unforgettable island adventure. ☀️⛵
