Impormasyon ng produkto

Most visitors know Teotitlán del Valle for its world-famous handwoven textiles. Few realize that just beyond the village lies one of the Central Valleys' finest birdwatching locations. Only a short drive from Oaxaca City, the reservoir and surrounding scrub forest offer a peaceful refuge where resident, endemic, and seasonal migratory birds thrive.

This experience is more than a birdwatching tour—it's an opportunity to discover Oaxaca through the eyes of the people who call it home.

Join a small group of no more than six guests for a relaxed morning led by a certified bilingual guide with deep roots in the region. Born and raised in Oaxaca and of Zapotec heritage, I'll share how birds, landscapes, and local traditions have shaped life in this valley for generations. Depending on availability, you may also be accompanied by a guide from Oaxaca's Mixteca region, offering another Indigenous perspective on the state's extraordinary natural and cultural diversity.

We begin at dawn, when bird activity is at its peak. Walking at an easy pace along the reservoir and nearby trails, you'll learn to identify birds by sight and sound while discovering the habitats that support them. Throughout the year, you may encounter colorful hummingbirds, flycatchers, tanagers, orioles, woodpeckers, raptors, and other species. The exact birds vary with the seasons, making every visit unique.

Our small group size means plenty of time to observe wildlife, ask questions, improve your photography, and enjoy the quiet surroundings without the crowds often found on larger tours.

Birds are only part of the experience. Teotitlán del Valle remains a living Zapotec community where many residents still speak Zapotec as their first language and proudly preserve traditions passed down through generations. The village is also one of the main gateways to the Sierra Norte mountains, a region celebrated for its biodiversity and community-led conservation.

After the walk, enjoy a homemade Oaxacan breakfast prepared by a local resident. It's the perfect way to reflect on the morning while supporting the community that makes this experience possible.

If you're looking for something beyond the typical sightseeing itinerary, don't miss this unique opportunity to combine birdwatching, Indigenous culture, local hospitality, and conservation—all within minutes of Oaxaca City.
