Product Info

The wine-growing tradition is rooted in this territory, which produces the finest wines made from traditional, high-quality grape varieties: Baga and Touriga Nacional for the reds, and Bical, Maria Gomes, Arinto and Cercial for the whites.

The cool, humid climate and strong maritime influence provide grapes with a low alcohol content and high acidity, excellent for the production of sparkling wines, where they have been taking on greater relevance, with the Bairrada region holding the title of best sparkling wine in the 2019 Portugal wine competition.

On this bike tour we invite guests to cycle through the vineyards of the Bairrada Route, an area known as the Portuguese capital of sparkling wines.

After picking up the participants in Coimbra by car with their bikes, we'll head to Curia, where we'll visit the Rota da Bairrada headquarters. Then we'll start the guided bike ride on a 52-kilometer circular route of intermediate difficulty, mixed between secondary or dirt roads around some wine estates, getting to know this vast territory in a different and exclusive way, where you'll have direct contact with the "terroir", the grapes and the producers.

We'll take a first break in the north to visit one of the traditional wineries, including a wine and sparkling wine tasting.

We'll then cycle to a restaurant to try the region's typical dish, Leitão Assado à Bairrada. We'll continue our journey to another winery to once again visit and taste wines and sparkling wines.

Once the visit and tasting is over, we'll head back to the car where, after packing up the bikes, we'll return to the starting point in Coimbra.
